Students will be provided with opportunities to learn advanced level content from an expert on endangered species.

About this excursion

This Stage 2 incursion is designed to develop the talent of students who show high potential in the intellectual and / or creative domain. It is specifically designed for students who show an interest in the natural world around them and who would benefit from being able to develop their scientific and creative skills at a higher level. This will be achieved through explicit teaching, challenging learning that extends students, high expectations and providing unique opportunities for students to learn.

Excursion activities at Bournda EEC

Initially: Bournda EEC will visit your school
to work with up to 12 students who show an interest in environmental science and creating and communicating using digital animation. The students will participate in a session focusing on our local endangered shorebirds, they will need to demonstrate their understanding of the different species and their threats to survival during an orienteering challenge course and they will get hands on using iStopMotion animation to communicate scientific ideas.
Following Term at Bournda EEC: Meet a NPWS ranger
Information session with Kaitlyn O’Brien, Shorebird Ranger, NPWS. Students will learn about the threats to the survival of this critically endangered species and challenge themselves to create solutions to these problems. The students will demonstrate their learning through the creation of an iStopMotion animation to educate others about how we can all help protect our local shorebirds.
